Photowalk #113: Madapakkam

June 29, 2017

The Chennai Corporation has grown. Chennai has swallowed up nearby villages/districts into the metropolitian area. This photowalk goes to one of the villages that have grown to become a part of the city. Madapakkam in East Tambaram is well known for its greeneries and the famous centuries old Dhenupureeswarar temple. This temple is an Ancient Guru Stalam and one of a number of sites that have been conserved and restored under the auspices of the Archaeological Survey of India.

This time the idea is to meet up at Rajakilpakkam Junction Bus Stop off Velachery Tambaram Main Road (Park your vehicles here)

and then photowalking around the overgrown village visiting Madapakkam Lake and reach Dhenupureeswarar temple where we’ll end the walk.

So there you go.

Yes, it’s Broadway!!

Broadway is neither ‘broad’ nor it has much ‘way’, with shops spilling on to the road and vehicles fighting for the space left. This is a road which has morphed into one of the most important commercial streets of George Town. Several commercial establishments, especially those of opticians, have their shops on this street. The Broadway bus terminus, the largest bus terminus of the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation, is located on the southern end of the road.

This Sunday, we’ll walk down this road, starting from Khadi Craft and cover the listed places. We’ll end the walk at Akhil Bharatiya Gujarati Samaj.

Photowalk #110: Walk thru the Commercial Capital of Chennai

March 30, 2017

This Sunday let’s explore a locality which puts all other crowded places to shame…In fact, the so-called top 3 “crowded places in the world” put together would not be able to beat this place. Any guesses?

So here are the clues – 1) You throw a glass of water high up in the air, and not one drop hits the ground! What if every drop landed on a person? 2) Narrow strips of land, no longer than a quarter-mile and no wider than 40 feet holding over 450 shops and over 1.2 million people walk through it everyday….

Finally yes, it’s T.Nagar!!! Unofficially, the commercial capital of Chennai which covers 15% of the city’s retail sales everyday…

What would we be covering? – Everything with highlights this area! … fewto mention…

1. Siva Vishnu Temple
2. Ranganathan Street
3. Mambalam Railway station
4. The vegetable Market
5. Annai Sathya Bazar
